Ohori Firework Display 2011

Although I’ve been a bit too busy for a solid update this month, I want to put up a quick post about the 49th Ohori Firework Display (Ohori Hanabi Taikai) coming up next week. This is one of Fukuoka’s biggest displays, featuring 6,000 fireworks and an approximate attendance of 450,000 people (last year’s attendance). Fireworks are launched from the island located in the center of the giant pond in Ohori Park, and the colors reflecting off the water’s surface and loud explosions reverberating between the buildings make for a stunning spectacle. Wear your yukata if you want, and aim to arrive early if you want to secure a good spot. Hope to see you all there!

Date: Monday, August 1 (in case of bad weather, will be rescheduled to August 2)
Time: 8:00-9:30 PM
Place: Ohori Park, Fukuoka City
Access: Short walk from exit 3 of Ohorikoen Station (Kuko Subway Line)

we were going to go this year, but my husband is too busy! i like how they have the event on the same day every year, but it also makes it a bit difficult for those of us who don’t live in the city.

by the way, my husband’s company’s main office building (yes, the whole building) is there at ohori koen and every year they host a party on the roof. a fun and easy way to see the fireworks, but not quite the same as mingling with the crowd!
